“The club are helping me and all the others so much,” Zouma told the official club website. “They are always here for us and willing to give us extra drinks, special food and anything else we need, and the Club are very supportive which I’m very proud of.

“Ramadan isn’t just about fasting, but it’s also about having more family time and getting away from bad habits – such as being on your phone, watching TV – and [instead] having big meals together. You see a lot of people you haven’t seen for a long time and that’s a massive part of it as well.”

Zouma added that West Ham’s commitment to strengthening ties between the club, players and its community during Ramadan has been exceptional, especially in their support of Friday prayers, the most important day of the week for Muslims.

“They’re very supportive [with Friday prayers] and it’s very important,” he said. “We have the Club Imam [Shaykh Khalil] come in on a Friday to pray. I’m very proud to be part of a club that supports us in every way and we can protect our religion in the best way possible.”

Arsenal and Manchester United were among other Premier League clubs who opened their facilities to host an Iftar event during Ramadan.

At Emirates Stadium over 100 guests joined first-team star Mohamed Elneny, to break their fast before welcome the unveiling of a newly opened multi-faith prayer room for players at the ground.

Elneny also explained to Arsenal’s followers on social media the wider meaning of Ramadan.

Semenyo was pivotal as AFC Bournemouth went unbeaten through four March matches. The Ghanaian winger scored in a 2-0 win at Burnley but his most influential performance came against Luton Town, scoring his team’s third and fourth goals in a 4-3 turnaround win from 3-0 down.

Son’s five goal involvements were the joint-most in March. He found the net in a home win over Crystal Palace, scored a late winner against Luton, and got a goal and two assists as Spurs won 4-0 at top-four rivals Aston Villa.

The right-back was important at both ends in March for Arsenal, who conceded only one goal in three matches, including a goalless draw at title rivals Man City, whom they limited to only one shot on target. White scored in a victory at Sheffield United before setting up a late winner at home to Brentford that sent Arsenal top for the first time since Boxing Day.

West Ham United captain Kurt Zouma joined members of the local community at a special Iftar event at the club’s Chadwell Heath training ground as part of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting.

“Iftar” is a community meal during the holy month when people of the Muslim faith, of other faith or of no faith are invited to come together at sunset to break their fast. It is the main meal of the day for those fasting.

Zouma, along with West Ham Women’s team vice-captain Hawa Cissoko and Academy player Rayan Oyebade, who are also of Muslim faith, attended the event, the third year the Hammers have hosted an Iftar meal.

The public votes are combined with those of a panel of football experts, while the EA SPORTS award also factors in the votes of captains of each Premier League club.

The winners will be announced the week after the shortlists are revealed.

Newcastle United’s Swedish striker scored in all three of his March appearances, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea and West Ham United. He also got an assist in the 4-3 turnaround win over West Ham to end the month with a joint league-high five goal involvements.

The central midfielder scored or assisted three of his team’s four goals in the month as Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion, and drew with Manchester City. He created 11 chances in only three appearances as the Reds ended March top of the Premier League.

The in-form Brazilian scored in three of his four March matches, including a brace in a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur and a sensational stoppage-time scissor-kick goal to rescue a point at Sheffield United. Only Isak matched his four goals in the month.

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

The 21-year-old scored three goals and assisted a further two as Chelsea went unbeaten through March. He assisted a late equaliser at Brentford, scored and set up a goal in a 3-2 win over Newcastle, and netted both goals in a draw with Burnley. He also created 10 chances in March.

Having replaced James Trafford between the sticks for Burnley as of late, Muric has been a key part of the Clarets’ upturn in form – Vincent Kompany’s team having come into this encounter on the back of a four-match unbeaten run.

However, Muric cost the visitors in big fashion with his calamitous error at the end of the first half.

O’Shea subsequently compounded Kompany’s frustration, making a rash tackle on McNeil, which was deemed as overly aggressive by Oliver.

Burnley are without a win in their last seven away league match, drawing two and losing five, with the Clarets conceding the opening goal in six of those encounters; the exception being a 2-2 draw with West Ham United last month.

After a run of 18 Premier League matches without a goal, Calvert-Lewin has scored in successive games for Everton in the competition for the first time since September this season.

Calvert-Lewin has scored four Premier League goals in his last six appearances against Burnley, he’s only netted more in the competition against Newcastle United, with six and Crystal Palace, with five.

Burnley’s seven red cards this season is the most by a side in a Premier League season since both Aston Villa and Newcastle in 2014/15 (both 7). Indeed, O’Shea is the seventh different player to be dismissed for them in the league this season, only Sunderland in 2009/10 and Leicester in 1994/95 (both 8) have had more different players sent off in a Premier League campaign.

The shortlists for March 2024’s EA SPORTS Player, Barclays Manager, Budweiser Goal and Castrol Save of the Month awards have been revealed.
